Revellers enjoy the water festival on Khao San Road on April 13, 2016. (Bangkok Post file photo)Songkran activities on Khao San Road in Bangkok will be more subdued this year in the wake of the mourning for the passing of the revered king. Shops and restaurants will still be opened and people can still soak each other, Sa-nga Ruangwattansakul, adviser to the Khao San Road operators group, told Thai media. Early-morning merit-making and the sprinkling of Luang Pu Khao San Buddha image will still be held, he said. Piyabut Jivaramonaikul, chairman of the group, added all roads near Khao San led to the Grand Palace where people came to pay respects to the king so more subdued celebrations this year could help ease traffic congestions.
